Outdoor Journey for 2009:
June 10-12 and August 5-7 @ Springbrook
July 14-16 @ Hickory Hills, Black Hawk County Conservation Board Park near Dysart
Outdoor Journey for Girls ("OJ") is a 3-day, 2-night workshop aimed at introducing outdoor skills to girls ages 12-15 in a supportive, learning environment where they have opportunities to try things "hands-on".
The western Iowa programs are held at the IDNR’s Springbrook Education Center, north of Guthrie Center.
An additional camp is held at Black Hawk County Conservation Board’s Hickory Hills Park.
The outdoor skills include: canoeing/water safety, orienteering, fishing, archery, shooting rifles/shotguns, conservation, camping, game care, furharvesting, fish identification, and fish cleaning/cooking. Within the program the girls also have the opportunity to become certified in Iowa's Hunter Education program.
Outdoor Journey is sponsored by DNR, Pheasants Forever, and Iowa Women in Natural Resources.
